In Dark Days, a divorced father sets out on a journey to get to his daughter who is living several hundred miles away after an EMP shuts everything down. Sounds like the same story line as many of these types of books, right? Yep, but don't let it stop you - this is one to add to your collection.

Haliday (the main character) is a rather abrupt man. He remains calm under pressure which is exactly what you need in a situation like this and really isn't into warm and fuzzy moments. On the other hand, he is honorable, loyal, and will die for those in his family - literally. I liked his character and no nonsense approach to obstacles - whether it is the "creative" way that he disguised his bug out vehicle or how to develop defense plans - they are realistic and could be done without winning the lotto. I enjoyed the fact that the author did not make the main character into a "super hero caricature" but instead a person that would actually exist in the "real world". I also appreciated the fact that while he expected people that he encountered to take care of themselves, he shared the knowledge that they needed to do so so that they too could be successful.

Haliday and the rest of the group will have to deal with family present, family missing, new additions that they pick up along the way, and "law enforcement gone bad" that are threatening their survival, regardless of the preparations that he had put in place to ensure his loved ones lived.

You will learn survival tips along the way - whether you realize it or not - that I personally could do tomorrow if necessary. That is always cool.

I would recommend reading the inspiration and acknowledgments at the beginning of the book. I felt like I got a little idea of what the author was like as a person and it helped me to enjoy and appreciate the characters in the story.

As a side note - Haliday has to go through Bryan Ohio on his way to get to his daughter. He mentioned what the town was famous for and I was like "huh!". I actually googled it and it was true and now, the kids and I are going to make a road trip one day there just to check it out. Love it when you read a book and find little interesting facts like that! In fact, it IS those little things that turn a book from a good read to a GREAT read by bringing it to life.

Recommend this book to all!

A page turner with a great story line. Very timely plot for these unpredictable times we live in. I loved it and can't wait for the second book.

I expected a typical SHTF book but this one really blew me away. It was easy reading and I became immersed in the story. I could hardly put it down. I really liked the fact that it didn't scream prepper or survivalist. Instead, it took you on their journey and you still learned along the way. Not loaded with a million acronyms or brand name products either. This was truly entertainment at its best. I did learn a lot of tips and tricks I never thought of. You need to buy this book. I bought two to loan out.

This is one of a few books that takes an ordinary man and shows what a little pre planning and foresight can accomplish against overwhelming odds, without thousands of dollars and super weapons Haliday makes things right.

*****

An excellent read of preparedness. This isn't your typical prepper book, it's about what's right and wrong and our core values. Action packed with strategy and gun battles. Strong characters both male and female added to the makeup of the book. I enjoyed this book, well written and to the point with a touch of humor.

This is a great read. I was engaged from cover to cover. Suitable for any age group, if your a fan of Great Gatsby then you'll love this. Bravo to this brilliant author.

At the time of buying this book it had 6 ratings, 5 of these were 5 star and 1 was 1 star (this one was clearly written by an idiot). The book is expensive but at over 400 pages and those 5 star ratings I took the risk and Iam glad I did. If you like this genre then buy this book its worth the price.

*****

The book is well written with an excellent main character who you quickly learn to like, what I also enjoyed about the book is that there was none of this padding the first half of the book, the main character learns about the EMP strike on page 1 and the action does not let up from there, also as another reviewer says the book is not filled up with pages upon pages of prepping material, the author instead introduces stuff at a timely manner throughout the book and not to the deterement of the story.

In summary, Yes the book is expensive by kindle standards but well worth it if you like SHTF type books!!!
